Think Global
READ wants to help educate the next generation of global citizens; a generation who are world-aware, who value and respect diversity, believe in the eradication of social injustice and who are willing to work together to take action and generate change.
So what are we doing about it??
READ and Oxfam are joining forces to create a new project where trained university students deliver interactive workshops to secondary school students across the UK, opening young people’s minds to global issues and encouraging a proactive response, by providing the resources and support required for schools to carry out a charitable project that has visible results.
Our trained volunteers have a passion for international development and the promotion of education and will deliver workshops to secondary school students.
We want to use these innovative, dynamic, hour long workshops to demonstrate the similarities between young people in Tanzania and the UK and convey the injustice of a global situation where some young people simply do not get quality education. Our volunteers will use their own experiences to inspire students to realise their potential as active global citizens. They will promote student volunteering, young social enterprise, recycling and the importance of education.
Our follow up projects will engage school students in book collecting, campaigning and fundraising.
We now have Oxfam and READ trained volunteers at Birmingham and Warwick universities. If you are a secondary school teacher interested in having our volunteers deliver a workshop at your school, or you would like more information contact:
